How to Adapt Ready-Made Recipes?

Every aquarium is unique, so ready-made recipes often require adjustments. Adapt any recipe to your plants, water parameters, and aquarium volume — this will help achieve the perfect nutrient balance.

When to adapt ready-made recipes:

  • You have experience in aquarium keeping
  • Need specific element concentrations for particular plant species
  • Want to dose more convenient amounts for your aquarium
  • Some reagents from the recipe are unavailable in your region
  • Need to prepare a different volume of fertilizer (more or less than standard)
  • Need to adjust element ratios for your water parameters
  • Plan to experiment with dosages

Ready-made recipes in Samomes can be adapted to your aquarium's needs in two ways.

Method 1. Calculation Through Reagent Masses

Use this method to recalculate ready-made recipes for the required volume.

Step 1. Select a recipe

Choose a suitable recipe from the dropdown list

Step 2. Set the required volume

In the "Reagents" field for the "water" reagent, specify the desired fertilizer volume

Step 3. Change reagent masses

  1. In the "Reagents" field, change the masses of all reagents proportionally to the water volume change:
  • Reduced water by 2 times → reduce all reagents by 2 times
  • Increased water by 1.5 times → increase all reagents by 1.5 times
  1. Monitor element concentration changes in the "Fertilizer concentration" table
  2. Achieve the desired element concentrations in the finished fertilizer

Step 4. Save the modified recipe

  1. Give the recipe a new name
  2. Click "Save"

Example of modifying the ready-made recipe Kuban Aquariums Potassium

Method 2. Calculating Reagent Mass Using Specific Concentration

Use this method when you want to control yourself how much mg/L each element's concentration will increase when adding fertilizer to your aquarium.

Step 1. Find a suitable recipe

Select a suitable recipe from the dropdown recipe list

Step 2. Set target specific concentrations

  1. Click the "Calculate reagent masses" button
  2. In the opened window, select an Aquarium from the dropdown list if you previously created your Aquarium, or enter your aquarium volume
  3. Enter the desired specific element concentrations (mg/L per 1 ml)
  4. Click "Save"
  5. The system will automatically calculate the required reagent masses and save the result.

Step 3. Save the adapted recipe

  1. Give the recipe a new name
  2. Click "Save"
