Features of Working with the Hardness Section

Guide on choosing water change type - RO with remineralizer, RO with tap water, or custom schemes

The section offers three main types of water change:

  • "RO + remineralizer" is used when complete control over parameters is needed - you prepare water from scratch, adding precisely calculated amounts of remineralizers to RO water.
  • "RO + tap water" is suitable for cases when tap water is too hard and requires dilution with RO to acceptable values.
  • "Other" provides maximum flexibility for non-standard water preparation schemes, including combining various sources and remineralizers.

An additional function of the section is the "I'm testing water" function, which allows calculating hardness parameters in the aquarium after a water change. When activating this option, additional fields appear for entering current water parameters in the aquarium. The system will help determine how much and what substances need to be added to the prepared water to achieve target Gh and Kh indicators in the water change and aquarium.

Choose the "RO + remineralizer" water change type if:

  • Your water has high hardness for a planted aquarium
  • The tap water has many nitrates, phosphates, silicates, or other elements harmful to the aquarium
  • Keeping demanding plants or sensitive fish
  • Running a shrimp aquarium with high water quality requirements
  • Experimenting with different fertilizer systems
  • Need absolute control over all water parameters
  • Need water parameter stability that tap water cannot provide from season to season
  • Mixing different types of remineralizers

Choose the "RO + tap water" water change type if:

  • Your water has high hardness for a planted aquarium
  • Your water doesn't have harmful substances
  • Want to save money and time on remineralizers
  • Wish to preserve natural minerals from tap water
  • Gradually transitioning from tap water to RO water
  • Keeping undemanding fish and plants

Choose "Other" if:

  • Combining multiple remineralization sources (RO + tap water + remineralizer)
  • Using non-standard water preparation methods
  • Adding additional fertilizers affecting hardness
  • Need maximum flexibility in parameter settings
